I’ve said it before; with each of her new collections Anna Sui takes us on a cultural time travel trip. Let’s take a look at the tour Spring 2014 gives us by starting with the backdrop, designed by Alia Penner (second picture.)

The Spring 2014 painted backdrop she designed for Anna Sui was inspired by a Dutch art/design/music collective named The Fool, after the tarot card of the same name. From 1967 to 1968, The Fool were extremely influential in Swinging London’s pop fashion scene, surfing effortlessly the wave of Pre-Raphaelite revival of the time with their psychedelic style. While Jimmy Page would go on to collect Edward Burne-Jones paintings, The Beatles would put The Fool in charge of the whole design of their Apple store

Their art was extremely colourful and detailed so it’s no wonder Anna would wink at them! I highly recommend checking this 1967 Sweet Jane issue on The Fool to see some more of their works. While you are at it, check the rest of the blog too, it was recommended to me by Anna herself!
